William Michael is Walking

Will took his first steps, without assistance, when he was 10 months and 1 day. In case anyone is wondering, they were to his proud mama. He is now cruising around and walking everywhere. I am experimenting with video clips. The resolution isn't very good, but you can get the idea.

He is a very pleasant and happy little guy. We couldn't be happier. Mimi and Uncle Jamie came out to visit for Easter. We had fun coloring eggs and having an Easter Egg hunt this morning.

Also, at the begining of March, Uncle Tim came to Utah to ski with some buddies and to meet the youngest Hanley. We got to spend a wonderful day together hanging out and enjoying some of Uncle Tim's world-famous cosmos. It was an awesome day!

Brandon becomes Catholic

The Floegel family traveled up to Tallahassee this weekend to celebrate with Brandon as he came into the Catholic Church. At the Easter Vigil at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More, Brandon was Confirmed into the Catholic Church and received his first communion. We were joined by Brandon's mom and sister. His sponsor was one of the brothers in the Brotherhood of Hope, Brother Jason, who converted to Catholicism while attending Florida State 11 years ago. What an awesome event!

Kim and Derek are engaged!

Derek proposed to Kim last Wednesday night!

It happened at the outdoor ice rink where they had their first date. Kim was very surprised but extremely excited. She was also surprised to learn that Derek had visited Kevin and Deb in Kalamazoo earlier that evening to discuss the proposal.

The wedding will likely occur sometime between May and September 2009, but no definite plans have been set. Kim and Derek look forward to seeing everyone in May for Kathleen and Brandon’s celebration.

Tara Accepted Into Nursing School

Tara recently learned that she was accepted into Loyola University's accelerated Bachelors of Nursing program. This was her number 1 choice, and she'll begin the program in May. It runs for 13 continuous months, ending in June 2009. Just wanted to share the great news!

First Day of School!

Hi All!
Monday, January 7th will be my first day as a teacher. I spent some time preparing the classroom this weekend and thought I'd post a few pictures of the end result.

'Twas the night before classes resume and all through the school,
not a creature was stirring not even a writing tool.
The posters were hung on the walls with care,
In hopes that the children soon would be there.

The books were nestled all snug on their shelves,
With tales of dragons, astronauts, and elves.
The principal in her suit and I in my sneakers
Had just finished fixing the intercom speakers.

When out in the hallway there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my desk to see what was the matter.
Out of the classroom I flew like a missile,
Tore open the door, and blew my whistle.

The fluorescent lights on the ceiling above
Gave a washed out appearance to the children who shoved.
When, what do my listening ears did I hear,
But my blaring alarm - just another nightmare.

Evanston Hanley Update

Tara completed her first semester of prerequisite courses for a degree in nursing and is on Christmas break right now. She starts classes again in January and will find out by February where she'll be attending nursing school.

Meanwhile, I've been working on video car reviews for Cars.com. Along with a text review, we're now expected to host a video tour of each car we're assigned. I'm still working on my on-camera persona, but you can check out one of my latest efforts below if you'd like.

Kathleen's Graduation

Hello from Florida!

I will be graduating this upcoming Saturday from FSU. I just found out they will be having a webcast of the commencement ceremonies. You can go to this website on Saturday morning to watch me graduate! Click on the link under Current News that says Saturday, December 15, 2007 9:00 a.m.

http://registrar.fsu.edu/

In other good news, Friday was the last day of my senior internship at English Estates Elementary. The students threw a surprise party for me (it truly was a surprise!) at the end of the day and the principal and assistant principal even showed up. Earlier in the week I had had an interview for a fourth grade position at the school and that morning I had had a second interview with the fourth grade team. The principal told me at the party that she would be offering me the job! My first day as a real teacher will be our first day of school back from the Winter Break - January 7th. Brandon also recently accepted a job at Limbach Mechanical Professional Services and will be starting June 1st after he graduates from FSU in April. Great news all around!

Las Vegas Wedding Celebration

10-25-2007

Andrea and I would like to send out a huge Thank You for those who were able to make it out to Vegas to help us celebrate our special day. We know it was hard for a lot of you to be able to free up your schedules and it means a lot that you were able to be there.

For those of you unable to join us, we missed you very much and were thinking about you guys throughout the trip. I am sure we will all meet up soon (possibly the Hanley Family X-mas).

Thanks again for all of your love and support, and for welcoming Andrea into the family with open arms.

Two new exciting things in Louisville!!!!!!

Howdy y'all!

I just thought I would send an update on two new and exciting things for me in the 'Ville. The picture shows them both: I bought a new Trailblazer, pretty slick, eh? And also moved up a league in ice hockey to the Sunday Night league. (I still can't stop well or play great, but it sure is a lot of fun!)

Also, I am going to catch the Purdue Michigan game in the Big House next weekend. Then Aunt Sally and Uncle Tim are coming down the following weekend to Keeneland Horse Racing (Lexington) and I will go visit and enjoy betting on some horses! Then I suppose it will be time to hit Vegas and party there, eh? Seems like a fun and exciting October for me, and wanted to share it with y'all!

Cheers,
Kenny

Jamie Celebrates 27th Birthday in Utah

Mike, Lynn & Jamie came to Utah to visit Will and celebrate Jamie's 27th birthday. The days were spent hanging out, shopping and a there was even a bowling excursion for Jamie's birthday. Will enjoyed all the quality time he had with Grandpa, Mimi and Uncle Jamie. In just a few weeks Will is taking a trip to visit Great Grandpa and Grandma DePietto in New York and then we are hitting the road back to Ohio and heading to Michigan. During our trip to Michigan we will be visiting all the family we can and searching for the UM football program (Sorry, I couldn't resist). We will be traveling to Flint to see Great Grandpa Storer on the 13th and we will be in Kalamazoo at Great Grandpa and Great Grandma Hanley's on October 14. We would love to see all that can make it. We are excited to see everyone.

Thank You and Update

Brian and I wanted to thank you all for your love and support during this difficult time. Your thoughtfulness, through cards, calls, prayers, etc. has meant so much to us and brought us comfort.

We have our good days and bad days but overall things are looking up and we are in good spirits. I am going back to the doctor weekly for blood work to ensure all the pregnancy hormone is out of my system. I'm almost there, hopefully only a week or two more of needles. I am very glad to have had the miscarriage progress naturally without having to have any procedure or intervention, but it takes a little longer this way. I am definitely learning to have more patience than I've ever had before!

Brian and are taking off on Friday to spend a week in Destin, FL for our annual trip with Brian's close friends from Purdue. We are looking forward to a week of relaxation and reconnecting with old friends for Brian and for me to get to know some newer friends even better. We'll have a Florida post with some pictures for you when we get back!

Love,

Liz

Lunar Eclipse 8-28-07

Lunar Eclipse

Before it all Starts ---->

To All,

Well - I finally made it to the Blog world !

Brian ( as Grand Web Master) made myself and Sue Authorized members of HanleyCentral.

Thanks Brian !

I figured I would try to post a few pictures from my Lunar experience this past week. A truly remarkable experience. I put a couple pictures from my album in this note. Here is the link to my pbase album:

If you go to this link - be sure to hit the slide show button in the upper right corner and put the timing between slides as 1 sec.

<------ The Eclipse starts

I need to tell you that I sat out on the back porch ( by the spa) with my new camera ( Canon Rebel XTi) with 300mm lens ( with image stabilizer). NO TRIPOD ( Hand Held only). Took a picture every 2-4 minutes. Mind you it was 4:45 am ( actually went out there about 4:18am to get the camera settings figured out). Just to add to the visual - I was sitting there in my shorts with no shirt and I was barefoot ! (Sorry - As much as you might like to have seen THAT picture posted - it was never taken - I could not take a picture of myself in that condition and I could not get Sue up to take the picture )!! waking Sue up at that hour would have been dangerous !!!!

This is about half way through:Actual Eclipse time was from about 4:48 am till 5:48 am. And Yes you should be able to guess correctly if you said "I bet Pat was late for work that day" - You would be right - but it was well worth it !

Here is a picture with the eclipse
about 70% complete:
One of the things I had to do was to play with the shutter speed as the light got lower - so it did get a little blurry later in the eclipse process.

I would also share that I did some post processing ( for sizing only) in photoshop LE , just to fill the frame with the Moon image.

I figure I would also put a picture in that was VERY close to the end of the eclipse and here it is

Well - here is my attempt at posting a Movie clip ( actual it is MS movie maker- not a real video clip - but I think you will get the idea) For some reason you hae to hit the Play button two (2) times for it to start ( maybe one of you techies can figure that one out for me):

I would have to say - once I was able to get into the HanleyCentral Blog as a REAL member - it was not that bad to navigate, update, and have some fun, and share with family and friends !

All for now,

Blogger Pat

The Churchill Downs Experience (more tame than the KY Derby)

As most of you may know, I recently moved to Louisville! Steven helped me move down and we made a trip to the bourbon distilleries, Lincoln's Boyhood home, and Churchill Downs and had a great time. Now that Hanley Central is working, I figured I should start contributing.

For those of you who don't know, Churchill Downs is the sight of the Kentucky Derby each May. There are three sides to the Derby: 1) The infamous wild infield...Described as Kentucky's Mardi Gras, and quite a unique experience 2) The sun dresses, big hats, and elegant side, or 3) Sit at home and watch the best 2 minutes in a horse race....Plus more...the mint juleps, festivals, twin spires, and the history.

It's a fun place to go and bet on horses, Steve and I had, and I try to do more often when there are races. Even the most simple 2$ bet turns into a good time, even when you win big on an accidental bet. (hehe, that was fun!)

As a recent work outing, we went to the track in Millionaire's Row (Yes, I actually have fun at work and work outings! I even learned to sail at one a few weeks ago!) We ate lunch and made bets in the same room where Queen Elizabeth stayed this past Derby! I could feel the British Royalty rubbing off on me, and came out winning a few dollars by the end of the day. Hopefully y'all can enjoy the pictures and get an experience for yourself. Else, you might actually have to come visit me some day!

The view up there is quite amazing, and more pictures can be seen in the link below:

Kevin, Deb, Kim, and David back from the river

I will christen my first ever bog entry by saying this is a great idea.
We had perfect weather every day up at the river. David rode his bike around the Wakeley Lake area and discovered a path that comes right down to Goodar road. So Kevin and I took a hike in to the lake from the cabin. It is an hour and 50 minute hike in to the lake. I can't believe we have been going up there for all these years and never knew you could walk right in from the cabin!
Kevin and I were almost run over in the crosswalk in downtown Gaylord. I injured my hand pretty badly as Kevin pulled me out of the way of the van. We were so shaken by the incident that we left after reporting it at the police station. We weren't going to report it, because the van sped away and we didn't have any information. But, a woman who was at the stop light was so alarmed by it that she chased the vehicle and got the license number. Then she tracked Kevin and I down later and handed us the information. I am glad she did, because I felt better afterwards. They were able to track to vehicle to a local health supply business and they were going to pay the business a visit.
Kim and Derek were up for a short time, then they headed off to Chicago for Lallapalooza (sp?). Derek brought paint ball up and he and David and David's friends seemed to have a blast in the 90+ heat. David had friends from high school and friends from college up. I am not used to cooking for large crowds (and large boys), but I managed. David fly fished for the first time. By the way he has been fishing every week this summer with friends after work. Now he can add fly fishing to his repertoire.
As usual, we took no pictures or video the entire time. It is unfortunate that we have no shutter bugs in our group. Just imagine everyone relaxing, reading a lot, kayaking, shooting archery, going on walks, watching the canoe race, fly fishing, biking, running, sewing, playing Euchre, playing paintball, oh and golfing.
When we returned to Kalamazoo yesterday, we discovered deer had eaten every tomato and leaf off our one tomato plant, as well as every leaf off every hosta in our garden. Compared to years past, we got off easy.
